On 30 October 2025, the Under-Secretary of State for European Affairs, Zane Petre, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Latvia, Colette Taquet, who had arrived in Latvia for an accreditation visit.
The Under-Secretary of State for European Affairs, Zane Petre, expressed appreciation for the close bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Belgium, as well as cooperation in the European Union and NATO, and she thanked Belgium for its contribution to strengthening security in the Baltic region.
The Ambassador expressed her commitment to the strengthening of the political dialogue between Latvia and Belgium, promoting economic cooperation and advancing collaboration in cultural projects.
The officials underlined the need to enhance the security and defence capabilities of the EU, especially through the development of military mobility projects. Zane Petre and Colette Taquet also discussed priorities for the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework, which will have an important role to play in the build-up of the European defence and resilience and in enhancing the EU’s competitiveness.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium resides in Stockholm, Sweden.
The ceremony of accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, took place on 30 October.
