Latvia is a staunch supporter of effective multilateralism in order to protect the rules-based international order. Cooperation in multilateral framework is essential to address more effectively issues like climate change, protection of democratic values, sustainable development and building back better after the pandemic. In 2019, Latvia joined the “Alliance for Multilateralism”.
Work at the United Nations is instrumental to Latvia’s multilateral engagement. At the UN, Latvia works together with other countries in addressing global challenges and seeking global solutions. Latvia also highlights issues that require attention of the international community, for example the fight against disinformation. In June 2020, Latvia released a Cross-Regional Statement on Infodemic in the Context of Covid-19.
Latvia was one of the leading countries on the UN General Assembly resolution “Global Week of Media and Information Literacy” adopted on 25 March 2021. It is the first UN resolution addressing the need to tackle the spread of disinformation and misinformation.
