On 3 September 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki, Latvian Ambassador Ivita Burmistre presented her letter of credence to Alexander Stubb, President of the Republic of Finland.
The conversation with the Finnish President focused on current security policy issues, the hybrid operations carried out by Russia and Belarus against NATO member states, the need to continue providing strong support for Ukraine, and close cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries on security, defence and economic issues.
The Ambassador expressed her readiness to work actively to deepen economic cooperation between Latvia and Finland, highlighting as priority areas stronger cooperation between defence industries and information and communication technology companies, the development of artificial intelligence, and closer cooperation in science and research.
Latvia and Finland enjoy strong bilateral relations and share a common understanding of regional security issues. The two countries are close partners within the EU, NATO, and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development).
Ambassador Ivita Burmistre succeeds Dace Treija-Masī, who has served as the Ambassador to Finland since 2022.
