On 11 December 2025, Ģirts Jaunzems, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan, presented his credentials to Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Chairperson of Mejlis of Turkmenistan, at a formal ceremony. 

Ambassador Ģirts Jaunzems expressed his determination to promote economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals, green technologies, and information technology, he also confirmed Latvia’s readiness to provide support for Turkmenistan’s economic diversification and export support to European Union countries by providing assistance in certification and standardisation. Both Dunyagozel Gulmanova and Ģirts Jaunzems appreciated the mutual cooperation and support within the framework of UN resolutions and votes, and confirmed their interest in continuing joint cooperation projects between the European Union and Central Asian countries. Dunyagozel Gulmanova expressed interest in parliamentary cooperation, particularly with Latvian parliamentarians. 

During his accreditation visit to Turkmenistan, the Ambassador also met with various ministers and deputy ministers of Turkmenistan, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agahanov, Minister of Automobile Transport Begench Annadurdyev, Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Technology Azat Ovezov, Deputy Minister of Railways Silapberdi Nurbediyev, Deputy Minister of Communication Durdyly Atayev, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss mutual economic and trade relations and opportunities for their intensification, as well as cooperation on various projects. 

Ģirts Jaunzems replaces Reinis Trokša, who has served as Ambassador to Turkmenistan since December 2022.
