On 24 September 2025, 49 heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Latvia will be going on their annual regional tour – and this year it is the region of Zemgale. The aim of the tour is to present the opportunities for investment, economic cooperation and tourism in the region and showcase the diverse cultural and historical heritage of Latvia, thereby also advancing Latvia’s bilateral relations.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, will first invite the diplomats to the town of Bauska. In the Bauska Castle, the foreign ambassadors will meet with the Chair of the Bauska Municipal Council, Aivars Mačeks, and the Deputy Chair, Linda Abu Meri, for a discussion on cooperation opportunities, getting to know the companies operating in the municipality, and presenting infrastructure projects implemented and planned.

The ambassadors will visit the Bauskas Alus brewery, the Rundāle Water Mill, and a recreation facility and guest house, “Miķelis”. There, the visitors will be welcome to an authentic Zemgale farmstead and get acquainted with the offer of local farm produce.

The regional trip will continue with visits to Rundāle Castle and Abgunste Manor.

For more than ten years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been arranging a trip for the heads of foreign diplomatic missions to a particular Latvian region. Last year, ambassadors visited Kurzeme, and before that, the regions of Vidzeme, Sēlija, Zemgale and Latgale.

Diplomatic missions of 136 countries and representations of 14 international organisations have been accredited to Latvia.
