Ministry of Foreign Affairs

From 27 to 29 April 2026, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, will be on a working visit to New York, USA.

During the visit, the State Secretary will participate in the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), where he will deliver Latvia's national statement on priorities regarding nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.

Andžejs Viļumsons will deliver Latvia’s national statement during the open debates held under the Bahrain’s Presidency of the UN Security Council on maritime security and on the Middle East, as well as at the Berlin Climate and Security Conference.

During the working visit, the State Secretary is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings, including with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs; Oleksandr Mishchenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; and Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, Minister of State of Singapore; as well as with the Permanent Representatives to the UN from several UN Security Council members and UN member states. During these meetings, discussions are expected to focus on current issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the security situation in the Middle East, UN reform and its global role, as well as the situation regarding UN peacekeeping missions.
