On 14 May 2026, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andžejs Viļumsons met with the appointed Ambassador of Serbia to Latvia, Milena Mitić, who was on an introductory visit.

The State Secretary welcomed Serbia's decision to open an embassy in Riga, which will be Serbia's first embassy in the Baltic states, and congratulated the Ambassador on becoming the first resident Ambassador of Serbia to Latvia. The parties emphasised that this step confirms their interest in strengthening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation in various fields. 

The officials discussed existing economic cooperation and cooperation within international organisations, and exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans and current security policy issues. Discussing the matter of European Union (EU) enlargement, Andžejs Viļumsons expressed support for Serbia’s efforts towards EU integration and emphasised the need for EU candidate countries to align with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.   

The Ambassador will take office following her accreditation by the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
