On 21 January 2026, during consultations in Berlin, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, had a meeting with the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Dr Géza Andreas von Geyr. Their conversation focused on current international affairs, including transatlantic relations and security matters, as well as efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. The officials discussed bilateral relations between Latvia and Germany, as well as cooperation in the areas of economics and defence. Andžejs Viļumsons praised the active political dialogue between Latvia and Germany at all levels and expressed gratitude to Germany for its contribution to regional security through participation in NATO air policing missions and military cooperation. He also highlighted Germany’s role as a key trading partner and investor in Latvia’s economy. 

During a conversation with the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Dr Bernhard Kotsch, Andžejs Viļumsons discussed challenges in the field of societal resilience. He thanked Germany for its decade-long financial support of various media, education, and youth projects implemented in Latvia through the societal resilience initiative. Andžejs Viļumsons expressed gratitude for the continuation of this initiative.

The State Secretaries of Latvian and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs signed the renewed Resilience Initiative Declaration, which provides for cooperation between the Baltic States and Germany in the field of information integrity.

In Berlin, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, also held meetings at the Federal Chancellery of Germany and the German Marshall Fund.
