On 12 March 2021, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the new Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Latvia, Doris Danler, via video-conferencing.

Andris Pelšs praised the close and friendly relations between the two countries and he noted that 2021 is a special year in mutual cooperation, as it marks the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Latvia and Austria are joined by a dependable partnership bilaterally, at the European Union level and in multilateral formats.

Ambassador Danler spoke of her dedication to the work of further enhancing the relations between Latvia and Austria during her posting, emphasising in particular the potential for expanding business cooperation.

The State Secretary underlined that Austria’s diplomatic representation in Latvia is of fundamental importance for bilateral relations and he expressed hope that a full-time resident Austrian embassy would resume work in the future.

The Ambassador of Austria to Latvia resides in Vienna. A remote accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, will be held on 12 March.
