On 20 January 2026, Riga hosted consultations on consular matters between Latvia and Uzbekistan, during which participants held in-depth discussions on the current situation and prospects for consular cooperation. 

The meeting addressed such topics as the establishment of a cooperation mechanism for the rapid exchange of information and the provision of assistance to nationals of Latvia and Uzbekistan in the event of potential consular emergencies. In addition, Latvia shared its expertise in digitising consular services. 

The consultations provided an opportunity to thoroughly discuss the current visa situation, particularly relating to the employment of foreigners in Latvia. The State Border Guard provided up-to-date information and statistics on migration, and exchanged information on practical cooperation in readmission and asylum cases concerning citizens of Latvia and Uzbekistan. 

Along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Latvia was also represented by experts from the Ministry of Welfare, the State Labour Inspectorate, and the State Border Guard.
