On 27 April 2026, during a formal ceremony at Riga Castle, President Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence to Ivars Lasis, the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Denmark.

Ivars Lasis began working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996 in the Information Division and, during his diplomatic career, has held various positions in Riga and abroad. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has worked in the Asia and Africa Division, served as Deputy Head of the Western European Countries Division, Director of the Information and Public Relations Department, Adviser to the Office of the Political Director – European Correspondent, and Director of the Security Policy Department. He served as Press Secretary in Riga during Latvia’s first Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2015.

During his career, he has worked at the Embassies of Latvia in Israel and Ireland, served as Adviser and Deputy Head of Mission at the Permanent Delegation to NATO, and as Ambassador and Representative to the Political and Security Committee at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union.

Since 2024, he has served as Under-Secretary of State – Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   

He studied philology and international relations at the University of Latvia.

In the second half of the year, Ivars Lasis will succeed Ambassador Inga Skujiņa, who has represented Latvia’s interests in Denmark since 2022.
