On 21 October 2026, the seventh round of political consultations between Latvia and Pakistan was held online in Riga. Juris Poikāns, Under-Secretary of State–Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ayesha Ali, Additional Secretary for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, discussed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as current international and regional security issues.

The officials expressed their interest in further strengthening political dialogue and expanding trade cooperation. They also discussed cooperation between the two countries within international organisations, particularly the UN Security Council, where both countries serve as non-permanent members.

During the political consultations, the Latvian side emphasised the need to continue providing international support to Ukraine and discussed the impact of Russia’s war of aggression on European and global security. The officials also exchanged views on current security challenges in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

The previous round of political consultations between Latvia and Pakistan took place in Islamabad in 2024.
