On 30 October 2025, the Under-Secretary of State, Administrative Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Māris Selga, welcomed an accreditation visit from the new non-resident Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Latvia, Muhammad Sami-ur-Rehman.
At the meeting, Māris Selga noted that Latvia was prepared to deepen bilateral cooperation with Pakistan, especially given the fact that Latvia and Pakistan will work together on the UN Security Council in 2026. This opens up opportunities to foster a common understanding of current geopolitical challenges. Māris Selga also called on Pakistan to support Ukraine by condemning Russian aggression, and he stressed the need to strengthen the rules-based international order.
The Ambassador of Pakistan emphasized interest in developing cooperation with Latvia through organizing high-level visits and promoting opportunities for more active bilateral economic cooperation.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 29 April 1996. The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Dana Goldfinča was accredited to Pakistan on 20 May 2025 and resides in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
The Ambassador of Pakistan resides in Warsaw, Poland.
The ceremony of accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will take place on 30 October.
