Ģirts Jaunzems and Edgars Rinkēvičs

On 11 July 2025, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence at Riga Castle to Ģirts Jaunzems, the incoming Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Ģirts Jaunzems began his career in the foreign service in 1999 in the Consular and Legal Affairs Division. He has worked as Counsellor in the Administrative Legal Affairs Division, Deputy Director of the Internal Security Department, Director of the Department for Promotion of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, and later as Director of the Economic Diplomacy Department.

He has represented Latvia in the Embassy in the Russian Federation, initially working on consular affairs and later as Counsellor for Economic Affairs. He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassies of Latvia to Italy and Greece.

He holds a master’s degree in law from the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia.

Ģirts Jaunzems replaces Reinis Trokša, who has served as Latvia’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan since 2021.
