On 30 October 2025, the Under-Secretary of State for Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivita Burmistre, welcomed an accreditation visit from the new non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Rwanda, Lambert Dushimimana.

During the conversation, Ivita Burmistre and the Ambassador exchanged views on the successful visit of the President of Rwanda to Latvia in 2024 and confirmed their readiness to deepen political dialogue and promote economic cooperation, especially in sectors with a high value added. Ivita Burmistre pointed out the interest of Latvian entrepreneurs in expanding cooperation with Africa.

The Under-Secretary then outlined Latvia’s position on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

The Ambassador of Rwanda emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation through signing several bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding. The Ambassador also congratulated Latvia on being elected to the United Nations Security Council. The diplomats exchanged views on current global security challenges.

The Ambassador of Rwanda resides in The Hague, the Netherlands

The ceremony of accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will take place on 30 October.
