On 30 October 2025, the Under-Secretary of State for Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivita Burmistre, welcomed an accreditation visit from the new non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burundi, Annonciata Sendazirasa.
In the meeting with the Ambassador, Ivita Burmistre expressed Latvia’s desire to improve bilateral economic cooperation. Ivita Burmistre emphasized that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is a gross violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, and a significant threat to the security of Latvia and Europe.
The Ambassador of Burundi expressed interest in promoting political and economic cooperation with Latvia. The Ambassador and the Under-Secretary also discussed opportunities for cooperation in international organizations.

The ceremony of accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will take place on 30 October.
