On 1 September 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, concluded her working visit in Slovenia, where she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and participated in the Bled Strategic Forum.

Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said in a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon:

“Slovenia is a close partner and ally in the European Union and NATO. We highly value the Slovenian military presence in the NATO Multinational Brigade in Ādaži, which strengthens the deterrence and defence capabilities on the eastern flank. We are grateful to Slovenia for its active work in the United Nations Security Council until the end of 2025. Latvia, starting its mandate in the Security Council in 2026, will continue to stand up against Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and for a rules-based international order."

As part of the forum, Minister Braže participated in its opening panel discussion, "Ukraine: Long Road to Peace". The minister emphasized that “Ukraine is fighting for the security of all of Europe security of all of Europe. A strong, democratic, developed Ukraine is the best guarantor of security for Europe as a whole. We must not relax, Ukraine’s defense capabilities must be further strengthened, including by supporting the military industry, training troops and providing the necessary weapons and equipment.”

During her visit, the Minister met with several senior officials: the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, the United Nations High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Al Safadi.

Baiba Braže discussed with the IAEA Director General Grossi the security situation at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the IAEA’s support for the nuclear safety of Ukraine, as well as the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program.

In a conversation with the UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, Baiba Braže exchanged views on the current political situation in the Western Balkans region, the progress of, and challenges to the region’s countries on their path to EU integration, and the implementation of reforms.

The conversation with the Jordanian Foreign Minister addressed Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as the critical situation in Gaza and other security challenges in the Middle East. In line with the common EU position, Latvia supports a peaceful, negotiated two-state solution consistent with international law and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 (2024) in particular. The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages and a negotiated settlement to the conflict.

During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs gave interviews to the Slovenian National Television and to a regional news platform, Bloomberg Adria.
