On 27 April 2026, during a formal ceremony at Riga Castle, President Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence to Ivita Burmistre, the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Finland.

Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999, Ivita Burmistre has worked on economic and trade policy issues, as well as in the field of multilateral diplomacy. Ivita Burmistre has worked in the Foreign Economic Policy Department, headed the International Trade and Investment Division, and served as the Director of the Economic Relations, Trade, and Development Cooperation Policy Department and the Head of the Directorate.  

During her career, she has worked on economic diplomacy issues at the Embassy of Latvia in the United States, at the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in Geneva, and has served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation.

As Ambassador, she has represented Latvia’s interests at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and UNESCO (2016–2020) and in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (2020–2024).

Since 2024, Ivita Burmistre has been Under-Secretary of State for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Latvia University of Agriculture and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Latvia. She furthered her studies in economics through a student exchange programme at Louisiana State University in the United States.

In the second half of the year, Ivita Burmistre will succeed Ambassador Dace Treija-Masī, who has represented Latvia’s interests in Finland since 2022.
