On 14 April 2026, during a formal ceremony at Riga Castle, President Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence to Reinis Brusbārdis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia and Permanent Representative to the European Union.

Reinis Brusbārdis has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2008 and has gained experience in multilateral diplomacy in the Ministry’s International Organizations and Human Rights Department, the European Union Coordination and Policies Department, and the Security Policy Department. He has served as Director of the European Union Coordination and Policies Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 2021 to 2023, Reinis Brusbārdis was Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, and subsequently served as Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since 2025, Reinis Brusbārdis has served as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU and is a member of COREPER I.

During his diplomatic career, he has also been posted to the Embassy of Latvia in Russia.

He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in History from the University of Latvia.

In the second half of this year, Reinis Brusbārdis will succeed Lelde Līce-Līcīte, the current Head of the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU, who has represented Latvia’s interests in the EU since 2021.
