On 12 November 2025, a delegation of the United States Congressional Staff, who had arrived in the Baltic states, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During their meeting with the ministry officials, the U.S. Congressional staff exchanged views on bilateral cooperation between Latvia and the United States, including the economic and defence cooperation issues. Other topics discussed were the security situation in the region and Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the impact on the region’s security caused by the hybrid threat from Belarus and Russia, and Latvia’s contribution to strengthening the external borders of the European Union and NATO.
For an introductory conversation, the U.S. delegation was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, who highlighted the unwavering cooperation and mutual support between Latvia and the United States.
As part of their stay, the U.S. Congressional staff is also having meetings at the Ministry of Defence, the Saeima (the Latvian Parliament), and with advisors to senior officials of state and government. The delegation is visiting the Ādaži Military Base, where they meet U.S. soldiers stationed in Latvia. The schedule also includes visits to the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence and the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia.
To gain an insight into innovations in the field of unmanned aerial technologies, the U.S. Congressional staffers have already visited the Edge Autonomy company.
Visits by the U.S. Congressional Staff to the Baltic states have been taking place on a regular basis since 2013, to offer a closer look into the security situation in the Baltic region, as well as promoting bilateral cooperation between Latvia and the U.S., in particular, in security, defence industries, technologies, and the energy sector.
The U.S. Congressional Staff delegation is visiting Latvia as part of their regional tour of the Baltic states from 11 to 18 November.
