On 10 March 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had an online conversation with the new non-resident Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Latvia, Phan Dang Duong.

The State Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on the new posting he will soon take up and pointed out that Latvia is interested in an active political dialogue, including exchanges of visits between the two countries, when the epidemiological situation allows for them. The Ambassador underlined the need for enhancing political and economic links and he welcomed the opportunity to promote the political dialogue with Latvia in bilateral and international formats.

The State Secretary, Andris Pelšs, mentioned the potential for bilateral cooperation in education, information and communication technologies, and the transportation sector. The officials highlighted the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement that came into force in 2020 and opens up more favourable conditions for economic cooperation. Cooperation in international organisations was also discussed. The Ambassador informed the State Secretary about the successful containment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam.  

The Ambassador of Vietnam resides in Stockholm, Sweden. A remote accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, will be held on 12 March.
