Latvian Foreign Ministry’s State Secretary, Andris Pelšs, meets the Ambassador of Russia, Yevgeny Lukyanov, during his farewell visit

On 7 April 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, had a conversation in a video-conferencing format with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Latvia, Yevgeny Lukyanov, during his farewell visit.

The State Secretary and the Russian Ambassador discussed issues of current importance in bilateral relations. Both diplomats confirmed that a constructive dialogue and practical cooperation between Latvia and Russia must be continued and highlighted in the areas such as the border regime between Latvia and Russia, migration, customs, tourism and culture.

State Secretary Pelšs and Ambassador Lukyanov agreed that the COVID-19 pandemic has left a major impact on bilateral cooperation and intensity of contacts, and they expressed their confidence in seeing work resume following the pandemic.

Ambassador Yevgeny Lukyanov took up his post in Latvia on 17 February 2017.
