On 19 May 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will host Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, on a working visit to Riga. This visit underscores the particularly close and strategically significant partnership between Latvia and Canada, highlighting Canada’s important role and contribution to the security of Latvia, the Baltic region and Europe, including through its leadership of the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia. During the visit, the Ministers will discuss prospects for further cooperation in the security and defence sectors, as well as economic cooperation, including in the defence industry. The talks are also expected to cover EU–Canada relations, as well as current issues on the international agenda.
Both Ministers will meet soldiers from the Canadian-led NATO Multinational Brigade at Camp Labrie military base in Ceri, Mārupe Municipality. A joint flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument is also scheduled.
On 20 May, Baiba Braže will participate in a joint “3+1” meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Baltic States and Canada in Tallinn, aimed at further strengthening the Baltic states’ dialogue with Canada and discussing current international issues ahead of the upcoming meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Sweden on 21 and 22 May.
