On 16 September 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine, Andrejs Pildegovičs, presented his credentials to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
After the ceremony, the Ambassador and the President had a conversation, which was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, and the Deputy Heads of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine thanked the Republic of Latvia and the Latvian people for their assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing that Latvia’s voice is clear, prominent and carries weight. President Zelensky also praised Latvia’s firm stance in strengthening sanctions against Russia, as well as support that Latvia provides for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union.
Andrejs Pildegovičs emphasized the strong support by the Latvian people and government to Ukraine – both in the military sector including through participation in the NATO initiative in support of Ukraine, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List (PURL), as well as in the Drone Coalition led by Latvia and the United Kingdom, and through investment in the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region.
At the end of the conversation, the Ambassador laid a particular emphasis on Latvia’s readiness, as a member of the United Nations Security Council in 2026–2027, to support Ukraine by standing up for and advancing topics important to Ukraine on the UN agenda.
Andrejs Pildegovičs succeeds Ilgvars Kļava, who has served as the Latvian Ambassador to Ukraine since 2021.
