On 1 October 2026, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Ireland Agnese Saliņa presented her letter of credence to the President of Ireland, Catherine Martina Ann Connolly, at a formal ceremony.
When presenting the letter of credence, the Ambassador emphasised the close relations between Latvia and Ireland and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. The cooperation between Latvia and Ireland in the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region in support of Ukraine was cited as one example of the successful partnership between the two countries. During the talks, the two countries’ shared commitment to upholding an order based on international law was also emphasised, which is particularly important in the current geopolitical climate.
President Catherine Connolly noted the need to continue working together to address today’s challenges and highlighted the important role of the Latvian diaspora in enriching Irish culture.
Ambassador Agnese Saliņa succeeds Juris Štālmeistars, who had served as Ambassador to Ireland since 2022.
