On 9 September 2025, Baku hosted the fourth meeting of the Latvia-Azerbaijan Strategic Dialogue, which addressed the topics of bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Azerbaijan, regional and international security matters, as well as cooperation within international organizations.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Under Secretary of State, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Ivars Lasis, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev.

The Under Secretary, Political Director congratulated Azerbaijan on the historic agreement on the initialing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Agreement, which is an important step in promoting stability in the region. Ivars Lasis also emphasized the need for continued comprehensive support to Ukraine, as well as constraining Russia and ensuring accountability for its crime of aggression. 

The previous strategic dialogue meeting between Latvia and Azerbaijan was held on 30 May 2024 in Riga.

During his visit to Baku, Ivars Lasis also met with the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbayov, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundžić, as well as representatives of an Azerbaijani think-tank.
