On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, met with a US delegation visiting Latvia as part of the EU-US Emerging Leaders Visitors Programme to learn about developments in quantum technology, 6G, military mobility and defence innovations in Latvia. Both the Minister and representatives of the US delegation noted the close and successful cooperation between Latvia and the US, based on shared interests, particularly in the areas of security, defence and border security.

During the meeting, Baiba Braže emphasised that Latvia is deliberately strengthening its role as a European hub for innovation and transport by using its strategic geographic position, well-developed infrastructure and rapidly growing innovation ecosystem. Particular emphasis was placed on the potential for deepening cooperation with the US defence industry, including in the development of quantum, drone and 6G technologies. The Minister also highlighted that Latvia is actively developing military mobility, which is essential both for strengthening NATO’s capabilities and for the rapid and effective movement of allies in the region.

The Minister pointed out that the transatlantic partnership is a cornerstone of Latvia’s foreign policy, and that such cooperation with promising US professionals is essential for building a stable foundation for long-term cooperation.
