On 17 September 2026, in Copenhagen, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Kingdom of Denmark, Ivars Lasis, presented his letter of credence to King Frederik X of Denmark during a formal ceremony, officially assuming his duties as Ambassador of Latvia.
In his conversation with the King, Ivars Lasis emphasised that relations between Latvia and Denmark are based on close political dialogue, shared values and practical cooperation in regional and international forums, including cooperation among the Baltic and Nordic countries (NB8), the European Union, NATO and the United Nations. Latvia and Denmark are currently non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Both countries are among the largest providers of support to Ukraine.
The close cooperation between Latvia and Denmark in the field of security and defence was particularly highlighted. Latvia highly appreciates Denmark’s contribution to strengthening security in Latvia and Europe, including the participation of Danish soldiers in the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia.
During discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries, the importance of economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts was also emphasised. Latvia and Denmark are united by active business, academic and cultural ties.
During the conversation, King Frederik X of Denmark recalled with pleasure his and Queen Mary’s state visit to Latvia on 28–29 October 2025.
The Ambassador expressed his determination to continue developing political dialogue, promoting economic cooperation, strengthening people-to-people contacts and deepening cooperation on security, sustainable development and competitiveness in the Baltic and Northern European regions during his tenure.
Ambassador Ivars Lasis succeeds Inga Skujiņa, who has served as Ambassador to Denmark since 2022.
