On 17 September 2026, in Athens, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Ieva Cēsniece, presented her letter of credence to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantine An. Tassoulas.
“Latvia and Greece are close allies in the European Union and NATO. We work side by side on the UN Security Council, advocating for the importance of the UN Charter and international law in the current geopolitical situation,” the Ambassador emphasised. Ieva Cēsniece also expressed satisfaction with the momentum and active bilateral political dialogue between Latvia and Greece in recent years, noting that work must continue to ensure that the common interests identified during these visits translate into practical cooperation that would promote the security, resilience and well-being of our citizens.
During the meeting, both sides emphasised the need to continue providing strong support to Ukraine. They also agreed on the need to strengthen resilience against hybrid threats, including third-party interference in electoral processes. The Ambassador expressed her satisfaction with Greece’s accession to the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (NATO StratCom COE) in Riga, thereby confirming the shared understanding between Latvia and Greece regarding security challenges and the importance of strengthening national resilience and combating disinformation.
Ambassador Ieva Cēsniece will take up her duties in Greece in September 2026, succeeding Ieva Briede in this position.
