For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is participating in the Balttour 2024 International Travel Trade Fair taking place at the Ķīpsala Exhibition Centre from 2 to 4 February.

During the three days of the fair, the visitors will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the Consular Department in person and receive advice on what to do in emergency situations and on travelling safely abroad in a time when the situation in a number of regions across the globe is volatile. Information will also be offered on how to prepare, in a responsible manner, for a trip planned to a far-away and less-known country.

According to the Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agnese Saliņa, the Foreign Ministry employees have been providing assistance to at least one thousand Latvian nationals every year who have ended up in emergency situations abroad. 2023 has been no exception. Before going on a trip under changeable security conditions, travellers should carefully assess potential risks in the country of destination, make adequate preparations and know where to seek assistance. For this purpose, the Consular Department has created a “Safe Travel” mobile application, a useful and easy-to-use tool for planning a trip and receiving assistance in a foreign country.

The visitors who have filled out a Safe Travel crossword puzzle will have the opportunity to take part in an instant lottery with a chance to win prizes useful for travel.

The International Travel Trade Fair Balttour is the most important annual event in the Baltic States tourism sector for both travellers and professionals. For further information, see www.balttour.lv
