To pay homage to the contribution made by a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, ambassador, member of Parliament and doctor, Georgs Andrejevs, to the restoration and strengthening of Latvia’s statehood and its foreign service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding a commemorative even on 5 September 2022.

Addresses at the event will be delivered by the Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs and by a guest of honour, former Swedish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Carl Bildt. Being a contemporary to Georgs Andrejevs, Carl Bildt was a steadfast ally and supporter to the Baltic States in the early years of their restored independence.

Memories about Georgs Andrejevs will then be shared by the Chair of The 4th of May Declaration Club, Velta Čebotarenoka, and the former Foreign Minister’s grandson, Arturs Okuņs, will speak on behalf of his family.

Georgs Andrejevs’ family members, the foreign diplomatic corps in Riga, and his former colleagues will be present at the event.

Georgs Andrejevs was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia (1992–1994), the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada (1995–1998) and to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (1998–2004), member of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia (1990–1992) and the European Parliament (2004–2009).
