On 10 June 2025, Riga hosted political consultations between Latvia and Colombia, co-chaired by the Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Katarina Plātere, and the Director of the European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Patricia Cortés Ortiz.

Given that Latvia and Colombia will be working simultaneously on the UN Security Council in 2026 and 2027, the focus of the consultations was placed on topics high on the international agenda and the foreign policy priorities of both countries. The Latvian side emphasised in particular the need to continue support to Ukraine and to constrain Russia, as well as ensuring accountability for the crime of aggression.

The officials discussed the European Union’s relations with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), including the upcoming EU-CELAC summit organised by Colombia in 2025. Views were also exchanged on the Latvian-Colombian bilateral relations and prospects for developing economic cooperation.

The previous political consultations between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Colombia were held in Bogota, Colombia, on 13 June 2023.
