From 2 to 3 September 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže will pay a working visit to Italy and, on 4 September, participate in President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs’ visit to the Holy See.
During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to meet with the President of the 3rd Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Italian Senate, Maurizio Gasparri. Their discussion will focus on the security situation in the Baltic region, support for Ukraine, holding Russia accountable for its war of aggression against Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
The Minister will deliver a lecture at the NATO Defence College in Rome, sharing Latvia’s perspective on the future of the Alliance, current threats, and Latvia’s contribution to strengthening defence capabilities since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As part of the President’s delegation, B. Braže will participate in the visit to the Holy See, where an audience with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, are scheduled.
