From 21 to 23 April 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will accompany the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
During the visit, a flower-laying ceremony will be held at the resting place of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and at Martyrs' Lane. The Foreign Minister Baiba Braže will participate in the official welcoming ceremony and the President’s talks with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan (Milli Majlis), Sahiba Gafarova, as well as in the opening of the Latvia–Azerbaijan Business Forum and a meeting with representatives of the Latvian diaspora.
Latvia and Azerbaijan will sign several documents confirming their cooperation. The Foreign Minister will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Latvian and Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs on cooperation in consular matters, which will strengthen cooperation between the two sides in the exchange of consular information and experience.
The Foreign Minister Baiba Braže is also scheduled to hold a separate meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov. The ministers will discuss bilateral cooperation as well as issues on the regional and international agenda, including the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, the situation in Ukraine, and the Middle East.
