On 30 October 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Latgale Planning Region, is organising its annual regional visit for diplomats specialising in economic matters from foreign embassies accredited in Latvia, this year – in Rēzekne. The aim of the visit is to attract investment to Latgale, promote export opportunities for the region’s businesses and develop international economic cooperation in sectors of strategic importance to the Latgale region.

During the visit, foreign diplomats will be briefed on the support instruments for promoting economic cooperation and cooperation with investors offered by the Latgale Planning Region, the Latgale Special Economic Zone and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia. An insight will also be provided into the region’s most competitive sectors, the availability of labour, transport and logistics infrastructure, as well as opportunities for collaboration between the business, education and research sectors.

The programme also includes company presentations and investor discussions on business development prospects and opportunities for international cooperation, with a particular focus on Latgale’s potential in sectors such as manufacturing, defence, robotics and photonics, information and communication technologies, engineering, the bioeconomy and renewable energy.

During a networking session, entrepreneurs from Latgale will have the opportunity to discuss options for expanding export markets with foreign diplomats and to establish new business contacts.

The visit will also include a tour of the RTU Rēzekne Academy and theLAB Rēzekne innovation centre, which fosters collaboration between entrepreneurs, researchers, students and start-ups, promoting technology transfer, prototyping and the development of innovation in the region. Representatives of the Academy will introduce the diplomats to Latgale’s innovation and technology landscape, vocational and higher education opportunities, as well as initiatives for human capital development.

At the end of the visit, the foreign diplomats will explore what Latgale has to offer in tourism and the creative industries by meeting with representatives of the Rēzekne Tourism Development Centre and local entrepreneurs.

Latgale plays a significant role in the economic development of Latvia’s eastern border region. The region’s ability to attract investment, generate high added value and develop export-oriented sectors is crucial not only for Latgale’s growth, but also for the competitiveness and resilience of the Latvian economy as a whole.

The visit will provide the foreign diplomats specialising in economic matters with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Latgale’s business environment, assess the region’s advantages for the development of investment projects, and identify new directions for cooperation in business, innovation and technology.

The event will serve as a platform for establishing international contacts and strengthening economic cooperation, bringing together foreign diplomats, representatives of regional institutions, entrepreneurs and investors.
