On 23 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Councillor in the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport, Dominique Hasler, for a discussion on bilateral relations, latest international developments, and cooperation in international organisations.

Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed satisfaction with the good cooperation between Latvia and Liechtenstein in the United Nations. Issues concerning international relations is a common priority for the two countries in the United Nations, Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasised.

The Minister confirmed Latvia’s intention to continue cooperation with Liechtenstein in the format of the Council of Europe, notably, by providing mutual support during the presidencies of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined that work must continue on decisions isolating Russia in international organisations, and, taking into account Ukraine’s interests, mechanisms must be supported for holding Russia accountable for the crimes perpetrated,

The Latvian Foreign Minister noted that in 2025, for the first time, Latvia would stand as a candidate in elections to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2026–2027.

Edgars Rinkēvičs invited his Liechtensteiner colleague to make a visit to Latvia.
