On 28 and 29 May 2026 in Zagreb, Croatia, consultations were held between Ivita Burmistre, Director of the Economic Relations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Irena Alajbeg, Director-General for Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, on economic relations, international trade, and development cooperation.
While discussing issues of bilateral economic cooperation, the officials expressed interest in realising the potential of economic cooperation, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in the defence industry and the field of dual-use goods, as well as discussing possibilities for cooperation in the fields of information and communication technologies, pharmaceuticals, and medical technologies.
Representatives of Latvia and Croatia expressed their continued support for Ukraine, discussing experiences with the support programs their countries have implemented for Ukraine. Latvia highlighted its assistance for the restoration of social infrastructure and support programs in the healthcare sector, while Croatia provided information on its support for veterans and its experience in demining.
Ivita Burmistre, Director of the Economic Relations Directorate, shared Latvia's experience regarding the accession processes to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the OECD Development Assistance Committee.
