On 30 September 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, will welcome Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, in Riga. The Ministers will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument. Foreign Minister Baiba Braže and her Estonian counterpart will present the annual Language Promotion Award (Languages Award) for contributions to the promotion of the Latvian and Estonian languages. The award will be presented for the seventeenth time.
The Ministers will discuss bilateral cooperation, support for Ukraine, current security issues, transatlantic relations and current issues on the EU agenda.
Baiba Braže and her Estonian counterpart will visit the “Drone House” training centre, which is the largest training centre of its kind in the Baltic states.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna is also scheduled to meet with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Background information
The Languages Award of the Latvian and Estonian Foreign Ministries was established in 2010. Its aim is to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries by promoting the learning and use of the Latvian and Estonian languages and the work of Latvian-Estonian and Estonian-Latvian translators in translating literary, political, scientific and other texts, as well as to encourage the contribution of Latvian and Estonian linguists and language teachers to the promotion of the Latvian language in Estonia and the Estonian language in Latvia. The monetary value of the award is EUR 5,000, and the Award Fund receives equal contributions from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Estonia.
