On 27 April 2026 in Sarajevo, the accreditation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vilmārs Heniņš, took place. During the accreditation ceremony, the Ambassador presented his letter of credence to Denis Bećirović, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the meeting, Vilmārs Heniņš spoke positively about the active political dialogue between the two countries and emphasised Latvia's support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's integration process into the European Union (EU). The Ambassador called for the completion of the necessary reforms to enable Bosnia and Herzegovina to begin the negotiation process for EU accession.  

The Ambassador expressed appreciation for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s alignment with EU international positions on current foreign and security policy issues. Discussing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, both parties agreed that strong support for Ukraine must continue, as the war in Ukraine affects the security of Europe as a whole.

Several other meetings with officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina and international institutions were held in Sarajevo. The Ambassador also met with Emina Merdan, Assistant Minister in charge of Multilateral Relations, and Momir Brajić, Assistant Minister of Bilateral Affairs.

On 28 April, meetings are scheduled with Christian Schmidt, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ahmet Egrlić, President of the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the conclusion of the visit, the Ambassador will meet with Luigi Soreca, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
