Igaunijas Valsts prezidents Alars Karis šodien akreditēja Latvijas vēstnieci Igaunijā Kristīni Našenieci.

On 17 August 2022 in Tallinn, in the residence of the Estonian President at Kadriorg Palace, the Ambassador of Latvia, Kristīne Našeniece, submitted her credentials to the President of Estonia, Alar Karis.

In a conversation with the President following the accreditation ceremony, the Ambassador underlined the friendly and intensive relations between the two countries and she confirmed her intention of working actively to expand them. Both the countries should work together and develop transport and energy projects important for the region, including Rail Baltica.

We must be united and resolute in the face of threats to our common security and make every effort to support Ukraine, Kristīne Našeniece said, adding that a major step also was the full discarding of Soviet legacy and a successful course of the educational reform.

The Ambassador also underlined her commitment to expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and language; she confirmed that she would like to visit Tartu, the Estonian President’s native city, in the near future. Tartu has been designated a European Capital of Culture for 2024.

The President of Estonia commended the close and friendly Latvian-Estonian relations. In the context of the upcoming Report on Latvia-Estonia Future Cooperation, the President underlined the symbolic significance of a direct Riga–Tartu railway link.

In the present ambassadorial posting, Kristīne Našeniece succeeds Raimonds Jansons, who had been the Ambassador of Latvia to Estonia since 2017.
