On 12 August 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Juris Pēkalis, presented his letter of credence to the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, during a formal ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia.

“The close cooperation between Latvia and Estonia strengthens not only us, but also the broader region. My priority is to strengthen bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia and our contribution to the Baltic and Nordic community, thereby promoting a stronger Europe,” emphasised the Ambassador of Latvia.

During the meeting, he commended the recent state visit by the President of Latvia to Estonia and highlighted the close and friendly relations between Latvia and Estonia.

Both sides also discussed cooperation between Latvia and Estonia in strengthening resilience against hybrid threats from Russia and Belarus, including the instrumentalisation of migration. The discussion also highlighted the need for closer coordination in implementing the Rail Baltica project and on issues related to airBaltic, given the strategic importance of both projects in promoting regional connectivity, economic development, and the integration of the Baltic States.
