Vēstnieks Ilmārs Breidaks iesniedz akreditācijas vēstuli Etiopijas Federālās Demokrātiskās Republikas prezidentam Tajem Atskem Selasijam

On 15 January 2026, the accreditation ceremony of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ilmārs Breidaks, took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During the accreditation ceremony, the Ambassador presented his letter of credence to the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atske Selassie. 

During a conversation with the President of Ethiopia, Ilmārs Breidaks informed about the priorities of Latvia in the UN Security Council, including the necessity to uphold the principles of the UN Charter that are being violated due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The President of Ethiopia reaffirmed support for the principles of the UN Charter. Additionally, both officials discussed the advancement of bilateral relations between Latvia and Ethiopia, in particular highlighting efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and affirming the intention to maintain an active political dialogue. 

Ilmārs Breidaks is the second non-resident Ambassador of Latvia in Ethiopia. The Ambassador will reside in Rīga. The previous non-resident Ambassador of Latvia, Iveta Šulca, was accredited in 2019.
