On 14 July 2026, during a formal ceremony at Riga Castle, President Edgars Rinkēvičs presented a letter of credence to Agnese Saliņa, the incoming Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Ireland.

Agnese Saliņa began working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003 and has primarily devoted her professional knowledge and experience at the ministry to consular affairs. She worked extensively on migration issues before focusing on crisis management and resilience. She served in the Consular Assistance Division of the Consular Department, headed both the Consular Legal Affairs Division and the Schengen Division, and later became Deputy Director of the Consular Department.

She has served in diplomatic posts abroad as vice consul and head of the Visa Section at the Latvian Consulate General in St. Petersburg.

Since 2021, Agnese Saliņa has headed the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She holds a degree in law and a master’s degree in law.

Agnese Saliņa will succeed Ambassador Juris Štālmeistars, who has represented Latvia’s interests in Ireland since 2022.
