Latvijas un Jaunzēlandes Ārlietu ministriju politiskās konsultācijas

On 2 and 3 November 2023, Wellington, New Zealand, hosted political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and New Zealand. Katarina Plātere, Head of the Directorate for Bilateral Relations, met with Glenys Karran, Head of the European Department at New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The officials discussed bilateral cooperation, including within multilateral formats, as well as current developments in the Indo-Pacific region and support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s aggression. The diplomats agreed on the need to stand up for a rules-based international order.

During the consultations, Katarina Plātere shared the experience of Latvia in combating disinformation, and highlighted Latvia’s expertise in the field of strategic communication.

The visit also included meetings with the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to New Zealand, Kevin O'Connell, officials from the Ministry of Defence of New Zealand, teaching staff at Victoria University, and the Latvian Honorary Consul in Wellington, John Milford.
