On 27 November 2025, in Kyiv, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Baiba Braže, had a discussion with and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on the course of peace negotiations and reaffirmed Latvia’s unwaveringly strong support for Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Foreign Minister Baiba Braže with a Ukrainian state award – the Order of Merit, Second Class – and thanked her for her significant personal contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state, charitable activities, and raising awareness of Ukraine in the world.

Foreign Minister Baiba Braže:

“I thank the President of Ukraine for the high award – it is an acknowledgement and gratitude to Latvia as a whole and to the Latvian society, which has been providing all possible support to Ukraine since the first day of the war and will continue to do so.

A just and lasting peace solution must guarantee a strong, sovereign and democratic Ukraine; therefore, weakening Russia and giving greater support to Ukraine are key elements for a lasting peace. A maximum economic, military, political and diplomatic pressure must be further made on Russia so that it cannot resume its aggression against Ukraine. Latvia will also actively use the platform of the United Nations Security Council, including to call on neutral countries, global partners and allies to do more in support of Ukraine.”

On November 26 and 27, Baiba Braže is in Ukraine – Kyiv and Chernihiv – for a working visit. The Minister met with the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, other senior officials, representatives from the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the military industry, NGOs, and the Latvian diaspora in Ukraine.

While in Ukraine, Baiba Braže handed over a donation of 21 Latvian-made Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (all the 42 Patria 6x6 vehicles promised by Latvia have been delivered to Ukraine this year). Total Latvian military support will reach 0.3% of GDP in 2025 – in addition to the delivery of the Patria vehicles, it includes training of more than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers, a 20 million euro investment in the Latvian-led Drone Coalition (support at 50 million euros is planned in 2026), contributions of 7.2 million euros to the NATO-US initiative in support of Ukraine (Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List, PURL), participation in the NATO-led Renovator project, and assistance with the renovation of a military hospital in the Vinnytsia Region. The agreement between Latvia and Ukraine on long-term support and security commitments provides for support in the amount of at least 0.25% of GDP in 2026.

In the Chernihiv Oblast, Baiba Braže opened the reconstructed paediatric facilities of the district hospital and the Chernihiv regional office of the Ukrainian Ombudsman’s Human Rights Protection Centre. Latvia has invested 612,075 euros in the reconstruction of both the buildings.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs had a discussion with officials from the Ukrainian anti-corruption organizations on Ukraine’s reform progress, strengthening the rule of law and anti-corruption efforts, as well as Ukraine’s progress towards the EU. With Foreign Minister Baiba Braže in attendance, a memorandum of understanding was signed by SIA Tilde, a Latvian language technology company, with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration on the maintenance of a translation platform developed by Tilde for the next three years. Tilde’s artificial intelligence tool will provide significant support in the eurointegration process, shortening the time required for translation and helping to ensure consistent terminology in various legal acts.

Baiba Braže laid flowers at the Wall of Heroes, honouring the defenders of Ukraine who fell defending the freedom and independence of their country.
