The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Nordic-Baltic countries firmly reject Russia’s blatant disinformation campaign and false claims, supported by Belarus, following the airspace violations in the Nordic-Baltic region. We strongly condemn Russia’s threats of the use of force directed at Latvia and other countries in the region.
Incidents involving drones entering NATO airspace are a direct consequence of Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. The Nordic-Baltic countries have never allowed their territory or airspace to be used for these attacks against targets in Russia.
Russia seeks to divert attention from its illegal war and to intimidate NATO Allies. This will not succeed and must stop immediately.
Ukraine has the right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter. We will continue our steadfast political, diplomatic, military and financial support for Ukraine to achieve a just and lasting peace in full compliance with the principles of the UN Charter.
As NATO Allies, we remain united in defending the Alliance’s territory and airspace, with full commitment to collective defence under Article 5. A strong and credible deterrence and defence posture, particularly on NATO’s eastern flank, remains essential to our security.
Nordic-Baltic countries will continue to strengthen their defence capabilities. We will also continue efforts to counter Russia’s malign activities, including disinformation.
