VS atvadu vizītē pieņem Somijas vēstnieci

On 15 August 2022, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, received a farewell visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland, Marja Riitta Korpivaara.

The State Secretary thanked the Ambassador for excellent cooperation and her contribution to promoting Latvian-Finnish relations. Andris Pelšs expressed his satisfaction with the partnership of the two countries both at the EU level and in coordinating responses to regional and international issues. The countries are linked by an active political dialogue and a regular exchange of visits by top state officials and experts.

Andris Pelšs confirmed Latvia's strong support for Finland’s NATO membership and welcomed the growing partnership between the two countries. The current cooperation between Latvia and Finland in the fields of security and defence was also emphasized. The State Secretary highlighted Finland’s highly significant involvement in the development of the Latvian National Armed Forces and the military industry since the restoration of Latvia’s independence.

The officials reaffirmed the potential of both countries for closer cooperation by continuing the work in promoting the security and development of the region, ensuring the implementation of transport and infrastructure projects and strengthening cooperation in the fields of digital solutions, research, innovation, as well as tourism.

Ambassador Riitta Korpivaara was accredited to Latvia on 4 September 2018.
