On 18 March 2024, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, received the non-resident Ambassador of Brazil, Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis, who has arrived in Latvia for an accreditation visit.

Andris Pelšs thanked the Ambassador for the third political consultations held in Brasilia in February, while stressing the importance of regular consultations for the development of bilateral relations. The officials agreed that bilateral economic relations should be promoted with the focus on the areas such as information and communication technologies. The meeting also addressed possibilities for strengthening cooperation in international organisations.

The State Secretary drew attention to the important role played by the Latvian community in Brazil in promoting the visibility of both the countries, including their economic dialogue. Brazil is home to the largest Latvian community in South America.

The Brazilian Ambassador resides in Stockholm, Sweden. The Ambassador’s accreditation with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has been scheduled for 19 March.
