Latvijas un Kazahstānas politiskās konsultācijas

On 23 November 2023, political consultations between Latvia and Kazakhstan were held in Riga, during which the Under-Secretary of State – Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andžejs Viļumsons, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roman Vassilenko, discussed current issues of bilateral relations, the development of economic cooperation, and cooperation between the two countries in international organisations. The officials discussed topical issues on the regional and international agenda.

The two sides welcomed the positive trends in bilateral economic relations, underlining the positive impact of the constructive dialogue between the Latvian and Kazakh sectoral ministries and businesses on cooperation.

The officials also discussed the progress in improving the bilateral legal framework and confirmed their interest in holding an Intergovernmental Commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation in 2024.

The consultations also touched on issues related to deepening EU-Central Asia relations, including measures to promote connectivity between the two regions.

The previous political consultations between Latvia and Kazakhstan took place in Astana in 2022.
