On 26 January 2026, the meeting of the EU General Affairs Council will take place in Brussels where Latvia will be represented by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artjoms Uršuļskis.
The meeting agenda includes a presentation of the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, an exchange of views on the European Commission’s “European Shield for Democracy” initiative, and a discussion among Member States as part of the rule of law dialogue about the situation in four Member States: Estonia, Denmark, Greece, and Spain.
The General Affairs Council examines matters concerning more than one EU policy, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for the European Council, the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework, as well as the rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
